Sensory-Friendly Easter Basket Stuffers for Kids (That Aren’t Just Candy)

Play Dough tools make an excellent Easter basket stuffer for all ages! These exact tools are linked in this blog post.

Easter baskets don’t have to be filled with sugar to be exciting.

In fact, some of the most engaging (and long-lasting) basket stuffers are the ones that spark creativity, imagination, and hands-on play.

If you have toddlers through early elementary-aged kids, these sensory-focused ideas are gold — and bonus: many of them will actually keep your child busy longer than chocolate ever will.

Why Choose Sensory Play-Based Easter Basket Fillers?

Before we jump in, here’s why I love this approach:

  • Encourages independent play

  • Supports fine motor skills

  • Calming + regulating (yes, even during holiday chaos)

  • Reusable long after Easter

You’re not just filling a basket — you’re giving them something to do.

Pre-made Sensory Bins

An Easter basket addition that will last well beyond Easter. This brand offers lots of different options but, in my experience as a Messy Play Party business owner, pretend ice cream is always a crowd pleaser! My kids have this ice cream set and they are obsessed. It encourages tons of open ended play.

If your kiddos’ already have a sensory bin, maybe it can use a refresh! Getting fresh kinetic sand in an old sensory bin brings them back to the toys they already have. Repeating activities is good for their brains!

Play Dough Tools

Don’t let the plastic fool you, this set is sturdy! This is the set I use at our events and it’s held up for many little hands.

We love the textures on these rollers! Sturdy material and fun prints!

Our Favorite Sensory Play Tools - Scoops Set and Fine Motor Set

Learning Resources kits are perfect for building your sensory tools collection. These sets include all of the essentials for sand, rice, and water play! Fun and beneficial for early learning.

Keep the messes contained with this durable, waterproof mat. It is marketed for baby led weaning, but it is useful far beyond that! This mat is a lifesaver for setting messy play expectations (“Messes stay on the mat!”) and for easy clean-up. It washes very well. Ours have survived countless events are still look amazing. It comes in lots of cute designs, but this gender neutral “sprinkles” is our favorite!

Sensory Tubes - Set of 4 or the Trio

Sensory fun with zero mess. Adults and children alike get mesmerized by these! We love keeping these in the car quiet entertainment (except the blue one with the little balls…the rattling is the opposite of quiet)

Stepping Stones

If we came to your birthday party last year, 99% chance you received some form of stepping stones as our gift. It is really my go to present; gender neutral, encourages movement, promotes coordination, and great for the kid who has everything. There are so many different types on the market at every price point, so you’re bound to find a set that fits your budget. I like these because the non-slip grip is around the entire base of the stone (My kids have a set with little removable no-slip pegs that I find all over the house - no thank you!) and some other fun accessories that encourage creative games. Ask Alexa to play “The Floor is Lava” on a loop and you’ll be golden.

Summer is coming (hopefully soon!) and these reusable water balloons are an absolute must! They are great for water table play in the backyard, fun at the pool, and for making lots of friends at splash pads. Ours have lasted 2 summers now and are still going strong. They are sealed by magnets which are safely tucked away within the balloon itself. Best part is that you won’t be finding tiny pieces of balloon all over your yard this summer.

Maybe you’d prefer to skip the little gifts? Instead invest in a sensory play tray that will serve as a space for countless creative endeavors. Our favorite are by MEKA! There are so many different options and accessories, it’s hard to choose!

Final Thought

My advice would be to skip the Easter themed knick-knacks that are fun for the day. Easter baskets don’t have to be about more stuff, they can give you a chance to set your family up for success in future engaging activities.

The kind that:

  • slows kids down

  • sparks creativity

  • gives you a few quiet moments (Yes, please!)

That’s a win for everyone.
